The Regional Tax Authority Building of Nice features office floors, an in-house cafeteria complete with food preparation facilities, a childcare centre and a garden. The building stands in a busy and haphazard urban landscape of elevated railroad tracks, motorways, ramps, and the Russian Orthodox Church in Nice.
The project consists of two buildings. The main building sports bold dynamic lines, mindful of both construction standards and visual integration within the environment. Its bowlike end, which is iconic of our firm’s love all things nautical, imparts a landmark status to the building, and ideally conforms to the shape of the lot that the building stands on.
The other building is smaller, and extends perpendicular to the main structure, delineating the triangular garden. It houses the childcare centre.
The project combines two different materials : aluminium and stone. The first is a witty allusion to the railroad tracks in the background and the latter conveys the reassuring solemnity of government buildings.
Its features and the choices our firm has made in terms of design and construction fully comply with our client’s terms of reference and budget, yet allow for a strong architectural statement.
